I was dissapointed when I recieved this map! Our plan was to get a paper map to put on our wall and pin our road trip plan of North Carolina. Sadly, they split the state in Half for this map, one half on each side of the map. THis company could have saved my dissapointment and waste of a purchase if they just put a photo of what their map looks like unfolded! DISSAPOINTED.
For my purposes this is a two star but I'll give it a four star as its good if you need a broad map of North Carolina. I take a lot of trips to the mountains to explore and come across the most fun and scenic roads off the beaten path and I wanted to keep a record of these roads so I bought this map to highlight them Only problem is the map is too zoomed out, so to speak, and none of the roads are on the map.
We were attending a granddaughter's wedding in North Carolina. The map was just what we needed to find the quickest way from Ohio to the city in N.C. It's large, the highways are clearly marked and easy to see, and the insets are very helpful. I simply highlighted our route. Once we were near the town, I asked my smart phone to lead us to the hotel - which it did. I know I could have used the map app on my phone, but having a large, tangible map handy gives me a broader visual of our progress and bearings.
I have used maps for years and will continue to do so. Great detail and clear printing makes this a must-have for travel and reference. You can not go wrong with the Rand McNally name. I used to travel for work and had a complete set for the whole USA. Handed them over to my successor and now I need to get some for vacation. Old school: yes, accurate: without a doubt, fun to use: you bet.
I used to love the free AAA maps and trip tics, but they are now gone forever. I have a few left, and they are better than this one. Better contrast, better paper. This map is marginal, like its a photo copy of a photo copy.
I like to see the Big Picture while travelling, and highlighting my route out, though I have a navigation device, the Good-ole paper maps are excellent for backup and keep the whole router in front of you.
They are good quality maps. Most recent I could find. Dated 2010. Sold on Amazon at a lesser price than at land bookstores, so do the math. And I don't belong to that big auto insurance company that gives you maps and routing, so this was the next best thing. Use Google for routing and get the state map here to make sure you are where you should be OR that your navigator is taking you correctly. (Ours made a few mistakes--we were heading south and it adamently wanted to take us north).
