Took my test the 5th of January 2018. Bought this book about 4 months prior and studied it along with 2 GRE books and a SAT book. In my experience, the AFOQT is more leaning towards SAT side when it comes to math and verbal. Having a SAT book and a vocab GRE book will make up for areas of weakness in this book. My scores were all in the high 90's for what it's worth.Pros:-Math and Arithmetic sections are similar to the AFOQT (you need to think fast, and have an "expansive" mind when it comes to math)-Analogy and Reading is also very similar.-Science and Aviation is close enough (Aviation information is a wide array of knowledge, so this book alone is not enough)Cons:-A noticeable chunk of mistakes in the two practice test (They're not gonna expect you to do Law of Sin without a calculator)-Table Reading, you're better off finding a site that will provide you with a huge chart to practice your eye to hand dexterity-Block counting is a little bit too easyOverall, I recommend this book, however, be sure to supplement it with another book or two to fill in the gray areas. I am an Engineer so most of the knowledge on the test was a given to me. It is not a hard test, you just have to want to succeed if you want to ace it. By want, I mean stick to a consistent schedule of studying at least 1-2 hours a day for however long it makes you comfortable until you are ready to take the AFOQT. Also be sure to buy some scantrons or testing bubble sheet to take into account how long it takes you to bubble in answers during timed practice. Good luck future Airmen of America.
Great book, all of the key sections did a great job of prepping for the test. I looked at several study guides, but this one was hands down the best.NOTE: If you are wanting to become a pilot this book is a great foundation, but you should get additional materials geared towards the pilot sections to ensure you do well in that area.Some feedback POST TEST:POSITIVE -1) Both sections for English and Math were spot on. Practice the types of problems provided and you will do great.2) The practice test layout was very similar to the actual test. Nothing was a surprise on test day.3) Great answer keys for the practice tests. They explain step by step how to derive the answer based on each question.4) Informative deep dive into each section with helpful tips and tricks to increase speed which is crucial on the test.NEGATIVE -1) Block Counting - The complexity of the block formatting in this section could be a bit more robust.2) Table Reading - Small tables of information are great, but it lacks practice with larger tables of information.3) Instrument reading - Very helpful overall but... The shadow model of the plane varied a bit and slowed me down on the test. Find different planes to look at so they don't trip you up.4) The practice tests do not have the time limit posted at the beginning of each test. You have to look these up ahead of time which was a bit inconvenient but not a show stopper.OVERALL REVIEW -I have to say that this book was a huge success to studying for the test and getting well above average scores.
I have found this study guide to be an excellent tool in preparing for the AFOQT. The only reason I am rating this product at 3/5 stars is because the answer keys are not accurate. Many questions in the instrument comprehension and math/arithmetic sections do not reflect the correct answers. All branches of the military require a high amount of attention to detail, the same should hold true for any company where the sole purpose of their product is to prepare one for entry into the ranks. The editors could have and should have done a better and more thorough job.
AFOQT Study Guide has pertinent informations, it explains the breakdown of the test and even how the test is scored. The examples and explanations on how to breakdown the questions and answer them is all very helpful in teaching one to choose the best answer and even helps one review information that may have been forgotten. The Practice test book gives one a good understanding of what to expect on the real test and helps one know what subjects to spend more time on reviewing. These materials definately help relieve test anxiety and makes one feel more prepared.
I recently purchased "AFOQT Study Guide" 2017-2018. I would rate this product 5 stars, it's very in depth and well organized with great examples. The format is great also with each section of the test broken out into sections making it a very effective learning tool. I am confident I'll pass with flying colors! I would highly recommend this guide for anyone preparing to take the AFOQT.
There are a ton of AFOQT study guides out there, and I've tried a few of them. This one, however, definitely allowed me to score higher on the actual test. I feel like it prepared me better for the multitude of questions by asking things that I could expect to encounter on the test. It helped steer me in the right direction, and the practice tests were the best I've seen from any book so far.If you're looking into getting a commission and you're worried about the AFOQT, don't miss out on this great resource!
I'm just starting to study for the test but this book has helped me get a lot more comfortable with the test. There are some small mistakes but overall it does a good job of providing explanations and a lot of practice. Just make sure you consult the official AFOQT study info and don't rely only on this book.
